I bought this fireplace blu-ray dvd after the Christmas rush, so I didn’t have a chance to play it until today – Valentine’s Day! I’m not going to say that it’s better than a real fireplace, because I’m sure nothing is, but it’s tastefully done and it doesn’t feel cheesy to have it playing.
While it’s the wrong time of year for the Yule Log chapter, the other chapters offer a range of different flames so that you can find the right one for your TV. Of note is the fact that the top of the flame is not chopped off as it is on some other discs. Since it’s just a fireplace, it’s not really the most colorful disc (it’s best suited for a darkened or dimmed room), but the video is crisp and clear. The cracking fire sounds great and the choice of music is also well-balanced.

I like this disc. I did however wish it was encoded with a little better quality … I think to make it a ‘ managed copy ‘ disc they limited the files to around 4gb in size so they can copy , the video runs around 18-20mbps, I would have liked to have seen 25-30mbps average… the flames tend to be too bright in certain areas… while they said it was recorded with a red camera the video is just not as sharp as hd moods fireplace which was also shot with a red cam and delivers almost 30mbps video with no flame over brightness…
I loved the different ratio’s that let you pick the size of the fireplace you want… really helps when your screen is over 40″ .
