The board is cool to an extent, like if you want the product simply to replace a dry erase board or replace a tablet where you always throw away the notes. It could even be used as a clean alternative for kids to draw with if they wanted. I think this product would have a lot more potential if they eventually alter it to save your notes like on a jump drive or something. For me, I can't see paying almost $30 for a cool looking dry erase board. If the price went down, maybe but at least for me I can't see paying more than $10/15 for it, even if it is fun to use, but I'm assuming since it's electronic it couldn't be made cheap enough. I also don't think it would work well for taking notes for a student, again, you can't save anything. I guess it depends on the use, but at least for now, for me, I'll pass. The downside is…

What you write cannot be exported.

This makes it no more useful than paper and pencil, and given the fact there is no colour or erase, and once you refresh what you wrote is gone, less useful.

If you want to write on a screen, touchscreen mobile phones allow this.

I look forward to V2 that is letter size with a save option.

However, it appears to be a larger form factor. The magic slates also feature variable line width, and a quick erase (by lifting the plastic from the wax pad) - and come in bright colors and/or pictures of dinosaurs. Others have suggested that later versions would have the ability to read or save the drawings doodled onto the surface - I think that's unlikely based on the hints of how it works (no power used to write on the display) - it's more probable that a later version might come in bright colors or have dinosaur pictures. This product comes from a company in Ohio, which brings to mind the famous Ohio Art Classic Etch A Sketch. There's no hint of backlighting, which makes LCD displays much more effective - if you prefer a backlighted display, I could suggest something like the Lite Brite.
