might sound stupid but i have a hd dvd player for my xbox 360 and there seems to be alot more blu ray movies out and i dont really want to buy a ps3 just to watch blu ray movies.

unfortunately NO–but, you can purchase a DVD player that plays both Blu-Ray and HD-DVD disks. Its a war right now and everyone including newscasters are saying wait for the winner. Remember VHS vs. Betamax. Same thing. Enjoy your Xbox for the games and dont depend on it for movies. Hopefully, if Blu-Ray wins the war (which I expect) Microsoft will be smart enough to add a player for your Xbox
No, you either need a Blu Ray player (the PS3 is one, but there are other standalone units) or a Hybrid player that plays both HD DVD and Blu Ray.
Given the divide of studios, I wouldn’t be shocked to see the hybrid players become the norm for the future.
