Yes you can, but it wouldn’t be ideal…
1. If it’s a HDTV (with a digital tuner built in) then there is no need to, as it has a digital tuner built right in that can display digital HD channels in high-definition. The converter box must first downscale it to 480i (standard-definition) so the picture won’t be as good.
2. If it’s a HD-ready TV (an older TV that has high-definition resolution but no digital tuner built in), it will work, but there are special HDTV tuners that are more expensive that would yield better results. The coupon-eligible converter boxes all downscale to standard-definition first, so if you want to watch digital HD channels in true high-definition, you will need one of these special HDTV tuners.
