If you’re interested, please read. Capture card = www.hauppauge.com Voice recording software = audacity.sourceforge.net Monitor = www.officedepot.com I don’t know where my component to VGA cable came from. ABOUT THE HD PVR: Fantastic product. $250 bucks though. It has composite and component inputs as well as the normal audio and even optical for surround sound. (it loops even “loops” the optical!) The software included is a ton smaller than Pinnacle studio’s recording software. It auto detects format and offers advanced options. If you’re going to buy the capture card, then buy it off of the Hauppauge website. They carry better updated models. ABOUT THE MONITOR: Fantastic for gaming, especially if you have an Xbox with an HDMI output. Full 1080p (1920×1080 resolution) and 2ms response time. Cheap looking stand, bad speakers, and annoying blue light (just put duct tape over it) are the only things bad about this beast. If you’re going to buy the capture card, then buy it off of the Hauppauge website. They carry better updated models. #46 – Top Favorited (Today) – Gaming

hey DavE how are u splitting the mic audio so that it goes to both your mixamp and your computer? i tried using a standard headphone splitter + an aux. 3.5mm to 3.5mm cord to duplicate the signal. could you please show me what wires you use for that exactly? (maybe message me on youtube with a link to where to buy the exact product? i’d really appreciate :) thanks)

I use an HDMI cable from my xbox to my monitor. do I have to purchase some cable for the pvr to work with the monitor? or can i just hook the pvr up via vga and let the signal go from xbox vga to pvr vga and let the signal stop there, and from my xbox hdmi to my monitor’s hdmi so the xbox would be transfering two pictures one via hdmi and one via vga? or will the two interfere with eachother?

@EirikYeah heh im worried about the same thing, i have a samsung syncmaster 2333hd 23 inch lcd moniter/tv and i play with HDMI, and im getting a capture card soon (just a dazzle though) and im worried about the change because i cant play on a normal tv and when sniping on games i usually rely on the high resolution to show movement from across the map :

    lol u are fukin jesus

  12. TheCrucialCommentary

man every time i click the record button on the hauppauge, the total media extreme program freezes :(

  13. KnightxofxLight

@EirikYeah HDMI is the best for this monitor. I only play in 480p so I can capture live.

  14. EirikYeah

I have the same monitor as you Dave, but I am used to playing with an HDMI cable. Will it be too awkward for me to play on 480p? I mean, will it affect my ability to play just as good as I do in 1080p? Playing in 720p with a VGA cable is of course not an option, as you get those weird colors.

I removed a ton of comments because it spammed it for some reason

I’m sorry, you probably answered this, but with this set-up you can record in 1080, right? I have a Hauppauge HD PVR, 19″ 1920×1080 monitor and it supports the hd mode. I plan on buying a “Component Female to VGA Male Cable”. Because if all I can play on is 480, what’s the point of recording with an HD capture card and playing on an HD monitor.

  17. Flashfarm

do you have only the red white and yellow cables going into your hd pvr because when i do that with my capture card it wont recognize anything above 480p

  18. NickCavegn

Do you have guys/girls have any tips for commentating noobies? I just got a hauppauge, and a Blue Snowball microphone, and I honestly have NO CLUE what to talk about… Please HELP! Respond ASAP….

    KnightxofxLight!
So you got the component to VGA from the PVR to monitor, but how do u get the sound to work? where does it come from when there is only a VGA input.

  20. myergang1

    turn on the captions
    cc then transcribe audio

  21. xNexic

@Corpucle same thing for me… did anyone solve this? else i’m just gonna have to return the monitor :/

  22. toolz6694

Thats a pretty awesome game station you got there. :) You got everything! All I got is a 42 inch lg hdtv 1080ppi and i just play laying on my bed and tv at the end of the bed. I use the headphones that come with the xbox.. :S lol

  23. Dant2142

Umm… about that adapter cord, It appears that it has no hardware on it to convert the signal, this is important because:

VGA uses: RGB (red, green. blue) color signals as well as a horizontal sync and vertical sync to tell your monitor how to create an image.

Component, uses: Difference from red, Difference from Blue, and the Green cable is composite sync (both Horizontal and Vertical in one cable).

Your monitor is expecting RGB, not component, that’s why the colors are screwed up.
