Only then will I be able to view in HD? Confused.. Please enlighten me with the truth!

Your monitor has to support the resolution. Full HD (1080p) monitors/TVS have a native resolution of 1920 x 1080. 720p monitors/TVS can vary but are usually 1280 x 720.
Choosing HD on youtube means to me you should be getting the best quality of the files available. Some users say their video is "HD audio" and usually they are better than the other files. Remember the people who post the videos are the ones claiming the quality. If the source is HD, you would need to have high speed service and matching specs on your end to truly appreciate the quality, but it will look and sound better even if you don’t.
