You can also find a recent Pixar movie (WallE, Cars, Up) and the setup menu has test patterns and instructions on how to set the brightness, color and contrast. This only works for the DVD player. You then may have to mimic the picture image for normal TV watching. (Many better televisions have separate settings per input.) Albin is correct.
