How does high definition work on computer monitors?

I’ve not often seen ‘HD’ or ‘full HD’ associated with the majority of PC’s and monitors.

Is this because modern computer monitors either currently match or exceed the 1080p resolution of full HD?

If you have a computer monitor with a maximum resolution of 1900 x 1200, HDMI connection and a blu ray reader, are you likely to expect a good quality full HD picture?

Many thanks,

The only computer monitors that will display full 1080p hi def.. (like what your blu ray puts out) are the ones with at least 1920 X 1080 resolution. With very few exceptions, the monitor will have to be at least a 21.5". Some manufactures like Sceptre have 1080p as part of their part number but in reality the resolution is 1680 X 1050. The second number has to be at least 1080 to show true 1080p images.

    Your monitor is probably a 1920 x 1200 (not 1900 x 1200) so it can easily disply a 1080p source beautifully.

Notice though, that your video card has to be able to support the
1920 x 1080 resolution. If your video card can’t do 1920 x 1080 resolution then you won’t get the full benfit of your blu ray. If your monitor is like mine and your video card is set to 1920 x 1200 then the 1080p will show fine, it just won’t fill the screen. If you can, set your video card to 1920 x 1080 to watch 1080p movies or game consoles and put it back to 1920 x 1200 for regular computer use.

The bottom line in your situation is, if your video card can do 1920 x 1200 or 1900 x 1080 then you should get an excellent, full 1080p viewing experience.
    Take Care
