How far away from the wall should i place my 49 inch Lcd tv?

I have just bought a 49 inch lcd tv but how many inches from the wall should the middle of the screen be?

Since most TVs can be wall mounted. Most Mounts allow for about 0.5 to 1 inch space between the TV and the wall. If you use the TV on a stand, then the stand can be flash to the wall.

The tv should be about (or maybe a couple inches higher) than your height when you are sitting on the couch. The recommended distance away you should watch is about 8 feet, just in case you care
