how many frames per second can a High Definition video camera record ?

Depends on the camcorder. HDV camcorders are typically 29.97 just like MiniDV, which in 1080i mode means the camcorder is actually shooting 59.94 fields per second. Some camcorders shoot 60 frames per second in 720p mode. In the case of the Canon HV20, there’s a mode where it shoots 24 frames per second, which is similar to film.
