How to connect to HDMI cable box and HD-DVD player to a HD-TV with only one connection for HDMI?

Okay so I followed the instructions. I went and got a splitter for my HDTV to connect as an output to my splitter for HDMI. Then I connected my HD-DVD to the HDMI input connections. Same for the cable box. With the cable box I also added the left and right sound. How do I do the DVD player. I can’t hear the sound for it because I’m already taking that space from the cable box. What can I do. There is only one input in my HD-TV for HDMI and sound.

You do not need the audio input (rca’s) on the hdmi on the back of the tv-you just need to go into the menu and change it.(sony did this for a while when hdmi first came out) you just need a two source hdmi switcher, availible here

this is a very cheap alternative that should solve your problem
or you can leave the cable box on hdmi and run the dvd player throught component video/audio, which will be your second source

Get a receiver or a switcher.

You may want to invest a few dollars and get yourself a receiver that has a few HDMI input. This would probably set you back $500 to a couple of thousand depending on which receiver you pick.

There are some decent Pioneer, Sony, Yamaha receiver out there that have 2-4 HDMI input and 1 HDMI output for a decent price.

You can try getting a HDMI switcher, they start at 2×1 to 8×1, they can be a little pricey though and they do support 1080p.

Here is a 2 port version
