I need to get a High Definition Camcorder with HD Video Recording…HELP?

I am confused about the optical zoom, digital zoom and the mp. I do not want to purchase an expensive camcorder when I can get the same things cheaper. what does the number mean? Is the number is high does that make it better? I am looking at a camcorder that is 12.0mp, 12x optical zoom and 120x digital zoom.

The more you pay for you camcorder the better it is. Most times people say, this 50 dollar thing films HD just like your 800 dollar camera. The difference is that the quality is way higher. The censor is bigger, it deals better with low light situations, the lenses are better (sharper images, let more light through). So spending more money will get your better quality video.

Anyway when you just buy an HD camcorder it will ofcourse record HD. Most likely 1080i (this means the video will have 1920X1080 pixels, and it will record half a frame each 1/60th of a second). It could also be 720p. That’s a lower resolution (1280X720 pixels). But it will capture entire frames each 1/30th of a second, instead of half a frame each 1/60th of a picture.

So that’s about resolution, you’ll just need one that records HD video. The camera might have 12 mega pixels, but those are for still videos. You’ll never get that much higher resolution while you’re filming.

12x optical zoom is okay, but you really don’t ned 120x digital zoom. It will only mean that it will enlarge the video. So you’ll get a pixelated image. It’s a pretty useless function. You can just zoom in later on your computer through software.

The optical zoom is physical. It means the cameras lenses actually do the zooming, like bi nocs. Digital zoom is done with software, it zooms in with out physically changing the optics. They both work and I think the optical is better. What kind of camcorder you looking at? Here are a couple HD cameras I would recommend
