hey junker15, u know those grey little arms ur pointing at 1:20 in the video? well i was reassembling my blu ray drive and those fell off. i re attached them and when i reassemble my whole ps3 back together. it makes a rattle sound (i can hear it jolting up and down) is this normal? how do i secure those arms so they wont move

It is probably misaligned in the top. See my “optical drive top” video for how to fix this.

nighthawk007 March 10, 2010 at 10:43 am

i followed video instuction how to get to and clean blu ray head…but after reassembly, it wont take disks? any idea?

junker15 March 10, 2010 at 10:44 am

If you have never disassembled the drive, the first thing to do is check all your connections. If you have taken the drive apart, things may be misaligned. See my “revised emergency eject” video for how to quickly check and fix the most common issues.

i cant get my ps3 to take the disc. i’ve recently had the YLOD i repaired it using gilksy’s guide and was wondering if it’s related to the YLOD because it hasn’t done that b4

It’s probably the laser that’s bad if that drive is anything like the older drive I have here. Unfortunately, my new machine still works and has a warranty for another 2 years, so I can’t see for myself…

TheHelenKelleher March 10, 2010 at 12:52 pm

@junker15, Disc goes in fine and i think the laser is ok but the disc just wont spin once it sits in. Will i have to buy a new laser & mech or do you have another solution please?Oh and i have the kem-410aca if that makes any difference to ya. r.s.v.p.

It takes some patience and a steady hand. The springs are thin and weak, and they will just pop off if the slightest thing is wrong. Your best bet is to use a small screwdriver, or some good tweezers if you’ve got them (but be careful not to bend anything).

i cant get those springs ontoo where they goto go im not sure how to

eurasianboy1112 March 10, 2010 at 2:41 pm

@junker15 It seems that the diode was only one part of the problem. I replaced it and the sensor works fine, but for some reason the drive is still not sucking the disk in. All gears are functioning correctly because I can use the emergency eject to test everything. Ill post a video tomorrow about what’s wrong. I hope you can spend a couple of minutes and watch it. Im really desperate.

YTviewer118 March 10, 2010 at 3:10 pm

nice video but you missed out one spring which is my problem, the small arms on the top wont feed the disc in all the way, and in the middle is a rather big spring which I have no idea where it goes :S
PLZ HELP !!!

hey i got the same problem like you do in the end, its keep spinning for to long, watch my vid on my profile, just got one about ps3 and the thicking noise, i just fix the clicking but now its spinning to long and not reading?? how did you fixed this.?

eurasianboy1112 March 10, 2010 at 4:55 pm

Thanks. I probably going to just buy a new diode/cable set from ebay for like $10. I hope it works!

junker15 March 10, 2010 at 5:54 pm

Something’s probably up with that disc sensor. This is especially the case if the drive runs for a bit when you power the PS3 on. Even though the disc sensor light is IR, it can’t be seen with the usual digital camera.

The most common disc sensor problem is that the wires break. Mine broke off inside the insulation and I had to reattach the wire to get it working again.

eurasianboy1112 March 10, 2010 at 5:55 pm

Problem with my ps3: it wont take any discs! Whenever I insert a disc, the PS3 wont grab it, however if I shove it in far enough, the PS3 turns on. This happened to me after swapping out the lasers. If I force the disc in and align it over the hole, I can get it out by using the emergency eject. The infared disc sensor on top doesnt seem to light up even through a camera but even when I try the remote control trick, it doesnt register. Is this alignment prob or sensor prob? Please help Junker15!

my ps3 wont eject my game , it will load but when i press the eject button it starts making this bad clicking noise, i need help people!

junker15 March 10, 2010 at 6:43 pm

Those springs are a pain in the ass, and they’re hard to find if you drop them, too. Obviously Sony was in a bad mood when they designed this drive. :o )

SgtScotty1599 March 10, 2010 at 7:27 pm

I literally spent 45 minutes replacing one of those damn springs. NEVER touch that part of the drive if you don’t have to because if one comes off, you’re fucked.

hoopsphan99 March 10, 2010 at 7:33 pm

hey PSP mine was doing that and it was bad laser

LeanderLM March 10, 2010 at 7:57 pm

Hey man! Yo I need help I just got a new ps3 lens and it’s reading DVDs but not my games is the lens faulty???

PSP1010 March 10, 2010 at 8:50 pm

I fixed my PS3 2 weeks ago and everything has been working fine. However yesterday I watched a movie and played some games as and it worked fine as well. However this morning when I went to play it, the game didn’t load. So I opened it up and took the lid off of the Blu Ray drive. Then put a game in it to test it. I noticed that the game spins and stops repeadetly for about a minute then stops until you go to load it again. And it repeats itself again.

hi i got a problem and wondered if you can help me please…well i had my ps3 without the top cover case and it fell down in such a way in which the part where you plug the blue ray dribe to get its power came off…i soldered it back to the board and it got power but now the blue ray wont reconise any disk…it fell pretty hard..do you think its the fall or the power? and what should you recomend i do? plez reply thanks

junker15 March 10, 2010 at 9:02 pm

My issue was caused by the plastic top being misaligned. My “optical drive top” video shows how to put the top on so it always works.

hoopsphan99 March 10, 2010 at 9:15 pm

hi junker im have the same problem that u had, disc goes in an tries to spin but it makes a grinding sound, it spins but not fast enough to read it, may not eject either
