    I’m loving my Asus VH226H

@cdthedrummer It would be okay but like any 6-bit TN panel you will loose color accuracy. If you really need a good monitor for graphic design go IPS 8-bit panel. They cost quite a bit more (hence most monitor are TN) but you get the true millions of colors they claim!

Great review – thanks for taking the time to make such an extensive review. This is going head to head (for me) with the Asus MS238H (LED Backlit) or MS248H (.6″ bigger :P ).

I use my screen a lot for games, but I need a lot of clarity for editing photos (I’m a graphic designer) so will this Samsung screen be good for both?

@BIGGBAGA They use the exact same video signal your adapter does nothing except change the pins and shape so it shouldn’t make any difference at all in the picture quality. Make sure you’re running the monitor in the native resolution otherwise it might just be the monitor.

Question, I have my computer hooked up with the dvi cable right now. If I was to hook up the HDMI cable through the adaptor will it make my picture any better? The reason I ask is I have my TV hooked up to my pc through hdmi with the adaptor, the picture is alot better . Is that due to that my tv is that much better than my pc monitor?

I was gong to buy another HDMI adaptor to hook my monitor up with, but if my pic quality will stay the same as it is hooked up with DVI than I wont bother.

@thevideoguy666 Yeah I am the 19″ Dell LCD is the secondary monitor now.

  9. thevideoguy666

Are you gonna use your old monitor as a second monitor now?

  10. MN12BIRD

@thevideoguy666 Meh probably not. Same res. I mean unless you really want the larger screen the Asus monitors are usually pretty nice.

Do you think this would be worth upgrading to from a relatively good Asus 21.5″ screen with the same resolution?

@Padoca85 DVI can carry 1080 p res, just doesn’t carry sound. So yeah DVI is better than VGA.

  13. MN12BIRD

@Padoca85 Depends on the monitor and with VGA being analog the quality of the cable can make a noticable difference. I’ve seen some monitors with good cables and I can’t tell the difference but I’ve seen some at work with cheapo cables and you can see ghoasting/color bleeding. Generally if it looks good now I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

Your new monitor looks way better than my LG widescreen monitor.

i never was able to make my DVI port to work..dont know why.. theres much difference between VGA and DVI, or is barely notable?

@emailaarun Newegg has it just make sure it’s the HM version the other 2494 doesn’t have the pivot features.

  17. emailaarun

Informative…….. where did u get this? i would to get one too, i actually need to have the pivot feature.

  18. SebastianG13

Does it have a Headphone jack?

  19. MN12BIRD

@KieranD212 Yeah lots of people like the 16:10 monitors. Yeah FPS dropped a little since I went from 720p to 1080p and like you said I could try VSync I did notice a little tearing in RE5.

  20. MN12BIRD

@duhmez Yeah HDCP will go over DVI-D. Actually, many DVI-D monitors without HDMI still have HDCP compliance but not all. I mean especially if it’s a few years old you might want to check. HDCP will not go over analog video like VGA or Component and it wont go over USB either.

Don’t you need HDMI on a pc if you want to watch Blue-Ray ont he pc with full res due to HDCP?
Or will the HDCP signal also transmit over the DVI interface?

  23. KieranD212

Id avoid monitor speakers unless it was for office use otherwise a really nice monitor, i see that even LED monitors are getting cheaper im happy with my samsung that is 1680×1050 16:10 i have a LCD tv also so i jsut use that for movies and consoles, older consoles i tend to use an old widescreen CRT.

Did your frames per second drop a lot compared to your old monitor?
Use V-Sync if the screen tears a lot i get a lot of screen tearing without it.

  24. TheAuraSword

Looks good! Lol, I actually picked up a used 15 inch lcd for $5 today.

  25. MN12BIRD

@PearlSWEDEN Yes this has HDMI right on it so you can plug in a PS3 or 360 and play. I also showed the little DVI-D to HDMI adapter so anyone with an LCD monitor with DVI-D knows they can also use that to get HDMI.
