I am really wanting a high definition DVD player with USB ports. However, having problem understanding if I can plug my external hard drive containing all of my movies into DVD player using USB cord to watch the movies I have on my external hard drive. Is this possible, and what high definition DVD player would allow me to do this at an affordable price?

Buy a Sony Playstation PS3. For $399, you can have the best Blu-Ray player out. It may let you copy from your Ext HD to the Playstation’s internal HD (40GB or 80GB). Then you can play the movies. If the Playstation can’t, nothing else will either. It’s your best bet.
Why would you buy an HD-DVD player…the technology is being phased out and will be obsolete soon. If you want High definition movies…buy a blu-ray player. Both do have USB ports…but it’s used for firmware upgrades and such. I don’t belive you can import movie files into it…I’m not sure why you want to…even if it could, it would still only show the files as they were filmed…it wouldn’t make it "high definition".
