hi guys,
is there anyone who can explain me whats the difference between HD and HD ready tv sets?

as some brands write only HD and some HD ready, also how many pixels in general counts as HD output? as i have seen different picture resolutions in different brand tv sets

one more thing, if a laptop has HD, has it got the same picture quality as HD tv sets?

thanks in advance for your time and answers

One Response to whats the difference between HD and HD ready?

  1. Chicago Analog

    HD means that it has the capability to decode over the air (OTA) digital high definition transmissions with a built in tuner.

    HD Ready means that it’s capable of display and HD signal from an HD source like a Blu Ray player or satellite box.

    If you’re planning to get some of your broadcasting from a local antenna, then you need HD.

    If you use a cable box, you only need a HD Ready display.

    Make sure the display is 1080i/p compatible.

    Display rates run as follows

    480i
    720i
    720p
    1080i
    1080p

    i= interlaced
    p= progressive

    progressive is generally considered superior.

    720 – high definition
    1080 = "true high definition"

    So get a display that is capable of displaying 1080 and you’ll be just fine. Make sure to set the source (cablebox, dvd player, etc) to the highest possible output (blu ray and cable boxes are generally capable of 1080p).

    Good luck.

    Laptop question – not a chance, PC’s don’t have the same circuitry as displays.
