@lurgertor Yh of course! AJ is generally gunna be the best hand folded round to you in the HJ so raise it 3x – thats totally std. But when faced with a shove from the SB and faced to call another 18BB thats where i can’t defend this ‘pro’. I really dont rate Andy Black tbh, WSOP 05 comes to mind when calling off light. He called somehow hoping for a flip and saw he was obviously crushed. Cut your loses at 3BBs ffs!
@Patigoooool I don’t profess to know Black’s style, but for myself AJ is definately an above average hand for me to be raising in that position. Of course I realize I’m a pretty loose in that I’ll play a lot of pots.
3:00 A.Black position is Hijack (2 from BTN) So yes looks like Black wont be raising that light, with still the CO, BTN + Blinds to get through. With that in mind, shouldnt the AK think Black is stronger then AJ and therefore only be re-poping him w/ v.strong hands. So Black’s mindset should be: ‘he knows i look strong n wouldn’t be re-popping me light.’ Theres no defence for Black here tbh ONLY if he somehow finds himself flipping v TT. No villian is shoving w/ A9s – 99 for 20BBs in WSOP ME.
@Patigoooool We don’t know which position Andy raised from, if he raised from the CO or BTN a player could easily shove AT or any mid pocket pair figuring Andy is just stealing the blinds.
@lurgertor Nah no way. Its at best a coinflip! I mean whats he putting him on? AT? 99? Just throw it into the muck and accept he had a better hand, cutting your loses at 24k. I dont think a 20BB stack is gunna be shoving weaker than AT especially in a tourny like this, like you said, and if u (somehow) put him on a mid pair, why a 40BB flip?

@Patigoooool AJ is definately at worst a coinflip against a resteal attempt, and even if his opponent had a hand a good portion of the time its gonna be a mid pair then AJ is a flip. Granted you don’t want to flip for that much of your stack but in tournaments you can’t just fold waiting for the nuts, otherwise you’ll get run over; especially in a tourney like the WSOP ME.

There is a type of play that has become rather common in the Main Event lately, called restealing. You do it against a player who you think is raising light, you repop the guy to put pressure on the marginal hand. This is especially common from a shortstack in the blinds, because a reraise means allin, and he doesn’t have to play the hand postflop out of position and doesn’t have to fear the big blind waking up with AA and busting him.
